We will not turn you down simply because a family member or friend provides support. To receive SSI, you must be disabled, blind or at least 65 years old and have limited income and resources.
We will use your income as well as any support you receive inside or outside your home to determine your eligibility for SSI. If you qualify for SSI, support from your children or from anyone living inside or outside your home may reduce your monthly benefit amount. Support includes any food or shelter you receive because someone else paid for it.
For more information, contact your nearest Social Security office or call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
If you need a language interpreter, we will provide free interpreter services to help you conduct your business with us over the phone or in any Social Security office.
