PROMISING PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES FOR CHILDREN OF COLOR IN THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM
This workshop will present preliminary results of a project designed to explore racial disproportionalities in the child welfare system. This is a qualitative project that aims to identify promising child welfare programs and practices that address disparities or inequities in service provision.
Nominations for promising programs and practices were solicited from child welfare organizations, practitioners, and scholars from around the country. Project staff selected 25 programs and practices that reflect innovative and effective strategies for reducing the disproportionality of minority children in various facets of the child welfare system. Descriptions of these programs with a summary analysis of their characteristics will be provided.
This project was initiated by the Commissioner's Office of Research and Evaluation at the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families, in collaboration with the Children's Bureau.
