Summary	Chiefly correspondence (1850-1920) of American and British authors whose works were published by the Boston firm of Ticknor and Company and (after 1885) James R. Osgood and Company, with most of the letters addressed to Ticknor or to his daughter Caroline Ticknor. Also includes occasional authors' manuscripts, including Mark Twain's preface to The New Guide of the Conversation in Portuguese and English (1883) and Barrett Wendell's Rankell's Remains: An American Novel (1896).
