High Performance Geocomputation
Research in this area combines the strengths of geographical methods with computer and computational sciences to address data exploration through mining and visualization techniques that are beyond the present capabilities of common desktop computing using commercial GIS. We are developing solutions for computationally intensive analysis of massive volumes of spatial data utilizing high performance computing environments. In addition, we are investigating novel approaches for developing modeling, simulation, and visualization frameworks for geographical or physical systems at very high spatial and temporal resolutions. National and global priority areas addressed include earth observation and simulation data analysis for climate and energy, transportation modeling and simulation, and activity-based modeling of population.
