PA Child Welfare Resource Center Training

The Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center, University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, offers a series of online curricula divided into two categories: Foundation training and Specialized and Related training. Among the courses in the suite is a training for supervisors pertaining to compliance with the Adoption and Safe Families Act and the Child and Family Services Review.

Each of the research-based workshops are developed by department staff to promote the implementation of the Pennsylvania Standards for Child Welfare Practice and Child and Family Services Review Outcomes. Each online course includes power points, handouts, content, guides, and appendices. The courses include the following:

Developing Family Leadership: Using Data to Help Develop Practice: This curriculum describes family leadership and explores Lackawanna County efforts to establish family leadership in the framework of case planning and organization development. Additionally, it examines how studies, data, and resources can measure progress and develop future plans for other counties.

Enhancing Assessments: Getting to Underlying Issues: This course provides home-based workers with critical questionnaires and assessment toolkits to explore the underlying issues and identify their impact on families and children. It then discusses the use of screenings by Family Center staff yielding effective methods and processes to understand family relationships.

Supervisor Training Series: Module 2: Living the Mission of Child Welfare: The second module in the Supervisor Training series describes organizational vision, mission, and outcomes in compliance with the Adoption and Safe Families Act and the Child and Family Service Review. It provides tools and strategies to aide supervisors in assessing, planning, and monitoring work from junior staff.
