Supporting Military Families
The Department of Defense as well as each branch of the military works to provide support for military families and their children. In addition to the national programs providing support for military families, each military installation has a Family Service Center and a Family Advocacy Program. The following resources provide an overview of support services available, including State and local examples.
Military OneSource
Provides free, private, and confidential services as well as resources for military personnel and their families on a variety of topics.
MilitaryHOMEFRONT
Provides information, policy, and guidance from the Military Community and Family Policy program to help troops and their families, leaders, and service providers.
National Military Family Association
Provides explanations on benefits and advocates for military family’s rights to benefits. Resources toolkits, publications and links to information on topics such as adoption, deployment, family assistance, family readiness and more.
Department of Defense Educational Activity
Plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the education programs for eligible dependents of U.S. military and civilian personnel.
Healthy Children
American Academy of Pediatrics
Offers tips and training for parents on a variety of issues such as safety and injury prevention, mental health, and child development.
Military Installations
U.S. Department of Defense
Provides a directory of military installations both within the United States as well as world-wide contact information for programs including family service centers and family advocacy programs for each installation.
Military Youth on the Move
Helps elementary, middle, and high school youth deal with deployment and moving as well as topics such as divorce, health, and finances.
National Guard Family Program
Joint Services Support
Provides information and resources regarding services, programs and assistance for service members, spouses, parents and youth.

Provides listings of factsheets, guides, and websites designed to provide support for the challenges military families face.

This Resource Guide was written to support service providers in their work with parents, caregivers, and their children to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. The guide includes information about protective factors that help reduce the risk of child maltreatment, strategies for changing how communities support families, and evidence-informed practices. It also offers suggestions for enhancing protective factors in families, tools to build awareness and develop community partnerships, information about child abuse and neglect, a directory of national organizations that work to strengthen families, and tip sheets in English and Spanish on specific parenting topics. |
USA4 Military Families
Seeks to engage and educate State policymakers, not-for-profit associations, concerned business interests, and other State leaders about the needs of military members and their families through State/military partnerships, to improve the quality of life for military families.
