Center for Information Protection

Research Focus & Anticipated Benefits

The Center for Information Protection, an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/U CRC) since 2005, aims to research and validate the methods needed to improve the overall assurance posture of the U.S. critical infrastructure. The center partners with industries that provide security solutions and industries that use those solutions in creating overall security perimeters designed to protect data and information assets critical to those industries. The center works with critical infrastructure industries as an independent third party.

Working with its industry partners, the Center for Information Protection reviews, improves, and models protection architectures tailored to security problems present in critical infrastructure industries, and provides a repository for its members of assurance research results, literature, and other resources.

Education & Outreach

An I/UCRC not only contributes to the nation's research infrastructure base; it also enhances the intellectual capacity of the science and engineering workforce through the integration of research and education. The program leverages NSF funding with industry resources to support graduate students performing industrially relevant and interdisciplinary research.

The Center for Information Protection provides training and education for both employees in the field of information assurance and for students preparing for competitive careers.
