MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Agency Stakeholder Sessions on the Presidential Memorandum - Managing Government Records

At our December Agency Services Bi-monthly Records and Information Discussion Group (BRIDG) meetings, NARA announced that it would hold an agency stakeholder session as required by the Presidential Memorandum - Managing Government Records.

Senior Agency Officials (as previously designated to NARA) and Records Officers are invited to a two-hour event which will take place on February 8, 2012, at our Archives I building on Pennsylvania Avenue. We will offer a morning session and an afternoon session; further details will be sent with your registration confirmation. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

The session will discuss agency responsibilities pursuant to the Presidential Memorandum. Following the briefing, agency representatives will meet and mingle, discuss and debate, and take part in activities based on real-life examples of information agencies are considering for inclusion in the required reports under sections 2(b)(2) and 2(b)(3) (see NARA memorandum AC 03-2012). This session will also enable NARA to gain an early overview of content that may be covered in agency reports.

To ensure that session activities are based on real-life examples, all registrants are asked to send in examples of draft content that they are considering for use in their final reports. These do NOT need to be in polished form, and do NOT need to identify the agency. However, please identify which section of the Memorandum each will address: current problems and suggestions for improvement of specific issues, and/or broader ideas for Federal records management. Keep in mind that the Memorandum emphasizes electronic records. Selected texts will be used for participant-centered activities.

To register, copy and paste the text below into an email, fill in the blanks, attach your draft material, and send to PRMD@NARA.gov no later than February 1, 2012. We are limiting the sessions to 50 people to encourage interaction. Up to two participants per agency (the Senior Agency Official and/or the Records Officer) may request participation on a first-come, first-served basis.
