  • VA Announces New Center for Innovation

    New Center builds on 3-year foundation of VAi2

    The Department of Veterans Affairs is proud to announce the new VA Center for Innovation (VACI), building on the success of the VA Innovation Initiative (VAi2). Launched in 2010, VAi2 established a portfolio of more than 130 innovation projects that help VA identify, test, and evaluate promising solutions that enhance the accessibility and quality of care and services delivered to Veterans. As a permanent part of the Department, VACI will continue to tap talent from government, industry, the entrepreneurial community, and academia. Also, VACI will add several new programs that expand VA’s capacity to embrace innovative ideas and address VA’s most critical challenges.

  • New VACI Innovations Named

    13 promising new innovations launched

    VACI announced thirteen new awards from its Industry Innovation Competition. These awards respond to needs identified by VA senior leadership and are focused on teleaudiology, prosthetic socket redesign, Blue Button, and automating the sterilization process for reusable medical instruments.

  • VACI Names First Fellows, EiR

    Dr. Adam Darkins, Chief Consultant for Telemedicine at VA, and Dr. Peter Almenoff, Director of the VA Quality and Safety Analytics Center, serve as 2013 Senior Fellows at VACI. Doug Trauner, CEO and founder of Health Analytic Services, Inc. and Co-chair of the FCC mHealth Task Force, has been named Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) at VACI.

  • Steve Blank Named VACI Senior Advisor

    Vietnam War Veteran, co-founder of E.Piphany, and prime mover behind the Lean Startup movement, Steve is the author of several influential books on entrepreneurship and teaches on the subject at Stanford University. Last year, Harvard Business Review named him a “Master of Innovation.” You can see why we’re lucky to have him.
