About The FOIA Ombudsman: Information and Advice

There are many great Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) resources in the blogosphere. So why does the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)’s Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) need to add one more?

OGIS is a new entity on the national FOIA landscape. Our office was created within the National Archives and Records Administration when the OPEN Government Act of 2007 amended the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. 552). Our mission is to mediate and facilitate FOIA disputes, review FOIA compliance and policy, and serve as the federal FOIA ombudsman. We work with FOIA requesters, agency FOIA staff, public interest groups and others. OGIS is here to change the culture of FOIA, and we intend for this blog to change the conversation around FOIA in the same way.
