In an effort to educate the transportation industry and others that provide service in accordance with the Department's drug and alcohol testing programs, our staff participates in conferences, trainings and seminars throughout the country. Events, dates, locations, and registration information will appear here as it becomes available.
 
Patrice Kelly, ODAPC Deputy Director, will be a guest speaker at the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) annual conference in Orlando, FL. Ms. Kelly will provide an update on the DOT’s regulated drug and alcohol testing efforts. DATIA is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of laboratories, collection sites, medical review officers, substance abuse professionals, third-party administrators, and regulated employers.
 
Jim Swart, ODAPC Director, will be a guest speaker at the Federal Transit Administration’s Drug and Alcohol Program National Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Swart will provide an update on the DOT’s regulated drug and alcohol testing efforts.
 
Cindy Ingrao, ODAPC Senior Policy Advisor, will be a guest speaker at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences at the Marriott Wardman Park facility, Washington, DC.  Ms. Ingrao will provide a presentation to the Academy’s National Safety Council: Committee on Alcohol and Other Drugs regarding the role of our office, recent developments in drug and alcohol testing, and emerging issues about state laws and initiatives legalizing “medical” and “recreational” marijuana.
 
 
December 1, 2012 – ASAM Medical Review Officer Training
On December 1, 2012, Cindy Ingrao, ODAPC Senior Policy Advisor, will be a guest speaker at the American Society of Addiction Medicine Medical Review Officer (MRO) training in Washington, DC.  The presentation will address the importance of MROs as “gatekeepers” for the drug testing program, the “due process” necessary in determining a verified drug test result, and that employees identified as drug users are to be removed from safety-sensitive duties until they complete the return-to-duty process.
