*Papers documenting presidential administrations from President Hoover through President Carter (excluding Nixon Presidential materials) are donated historical materials transferred to the National Archives and Records Administration pursuant to 44 USC 2111. Nixon Presidential historical materials are governed by the Presidential Recordings and Materials Preservation Act (PRMPA) (44 USC 2111 note) and are also not subject to FOIA. The Presidents donated these materials under deeds of gift that outline the terms of access that apply to these records. Each library maintains a very small number of Federal records that are subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. To inquire about a FOIA request submitted to any of the following Presidential Libraries or the Nixon Presidential Materials Staff, please contact the customer service center or Public Liaisons listed.
