HIV Testing – What You Need to Know PSA (:60)
Every nine and a half minutes, someone in the United States is infected with HIV. More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV—but many don't know they're infected.
Less than half of Americans between the ages of 18 and 64 have ever been tested. The only way to know you have HIV is to have an HIV test. If you find out you're infected, you can get started on treatment and take steps to protect your partner.
Everyone needs to get tested for HIV. Injection drug users and men who have sex with men need to get tested at least once a year.
Ask your health care provider for an HIV test, or go online to find a place to get tested at www.hivtest.org. You can also text your zip code to KNOWIT, that's 566948, to find a testing location near you.
