Disclaimers and Notices

This site is provided as a public service by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General (VA OIG).  Except for the Official Seal of the Department, official seals of other Federal agencies, and other documents or graphics as noted, all information on this site is considered public information and may be distributed or copied without restriction.  Attribution is requested, and links to the original document index are preferred to ensure timely and accurate information.  Mirrors or replicas of the VA OIG website are prohibited, and other sites that appear to represent the VA OIG or VA OIG web pages are also prohibited.  This site is intended to be used by the public for viewing and retrieving information only except as otherwise explicitly authorized.  Unauthorized attempts to access, restrict access, upload, change, or delete information on this site are strictly prohibited and may be punishable by criminal and civil penalties (see Monitoring & Unauthorized Use below).

For information on privacy while accessing this VA web service, please visit the Department's Privacy Policy page.

Links to Non-VA OIG Pages

The VA OIG web pages contain links to other Federal and non-Federal web pages.  We have provided these links in an effort to assist our customers in finding and viewing information related to our web pages.  The VA Office of Inspector General does not create or maintain any other Federal or non-Federal web pages.  Consequently, neither the VA Office of Inspector General nor its employees:

  • Make any representation as to the accuracy of information on linked-to sites.
  • Necessarily endorse any views expressed or information presented on linked-to sites.
  • Endorse any commercial products or private interests that may be advertised or available on linked-to sites.

We use JavaScript alert boxes on our links to non-VA OIG pages (example). The alert boxes will pop up when you try to access those external links.  If you do not have JavaScript enabled for your browser, you will not see the alert box, but you still will be able to access the external link.  We chose this method so that you do not have to wait for a redirection page to load before being able to access external web pages.

Electronic FOIA and Commercial Vendors:

Reports and publications on our website may be provided in one or more of the following formats: HTML (hypertext markup language), Adobe Acrobat PDF (portable document format), and Microsoft Word DOC (document format).  HTML is standard for Internet users; the other two formats are used because:

  • They are currently popular formats on the Internet.
  • Free viewers are available from the software vendors.
  • Most of our documents are originally in Microsoft Word.
  • Our Word documents can be converted into Adobe Acrobat.

Our use of and links to these two software formats do not constitute an endorsement of any Microsoft or Adobe product.

Redaction Information

The VA OIG is actively involved in implementing the new Electronic Freedom of Information Act (E-FOIA) requirements.  To satisfy the new E-FOIA requirements, we are now posting copies of VA OIG reports when we have received three or more requests from the public for that report or when we have decided there is significant public interest in a report.  We are dedicated to providing VA OIG publications or reports when requested by veterans and their organizations, the media, and the general public.

Some VA OIG publications and reports contain information that may or must be withheld from the public by law.  We have redacted (deleted or obscured) such information in our reports so that we can post them on the Internet in multiple formats for your convenience.

The same amount of information is redacted (withheld) from the electronic versions and the printed versions available to the public.
