The Applied Public Health Expeditionary Team, a ten person USPHS team off the USS Bataan, focus along 3 lines of operation: Immunization and Primary Care, Veterinary Health, and Water Sanitation.

CDR Denis is helping coordinate activities of the Team with local NGOs, the local government authorities and the Haitian Ministry of Health. LCDR Russell, an engineer from the Indian Health Service of HHS, is part of the team performing water and sanitation assessments.

CAPT Belardo, CDR Denis, and LCDR JeanPaul, serving as the U.S. Public Health Service Advance Team, traveled to Haiti aboard the USS Bataan. These officers are working alongside the military to provide humanitarian services and conduct public health needs assessments. Denis and JeanPaul have family in Haiti and are native speakers of Creole. Both are honored to provide relief efforts to their families’ native country.

International Medical Surgery Response Team (IMSuRT) technicians provide emergency medical attention to hundreds of earthquake victims at Gheskio Field Hospital, located within Quisqueya University in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jan. 19, 2010.

The IMSuRT is a national organization combining medical professionals from Boston and Seattle.
