- July 12 Marks Six Months Since Devastating Earthquake, July 12, 2010 - Per the President’s direction, more than 20,000 U.S. civilian and military personnel were deployed to carry out activities ranging from search and rescue operations; to restoring air and sea ports; to providing life saving health and medical service; and to helping meet the basic food, water, and shelter needs of the Haitian people. The United States evacuated over 21,000 U.S. citizens and provided for the return of the remains of U.S. citizens who perished as a result of the January 12, 2010 earthquake.
- HHS Activates Additional Components of National Disaster Medical System to Help U.S. Hospitals Treat Survivors of Earthquake in Haiti, February 1, 2010 - As part of the ongoing medical response to the Haiti earthquake, USAID, the agency coordinating the US Government response, announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has activated additional components of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) to help U.S. hospitals provide care to critically ill survivors.
