Substance Abuse Unit

The Substance Abuse Unit (SAU) provides Screening; Assessment; Education; Individual, Group and Family Therapy; and Substance Abuse treatment services through 3 components. The Intervention Program provides drug education and intervention services to youth assessed as needing less than substance abuse treatment but more than just education about substance abuse. Supportive Outpatient Counseling provides Individual and Family Therapy Sessions in the homes of clients and Multi-Family Group Sessions. Drug Day Treatment, which is licensed for 100 clients, provides 6 hours of academic education a day, GED preparation/testing and at least 10 hours of counseling per week, including Individual, Group and Multi-Family Therapy. The Unit has 27 full time staff, 16 of whom are Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors. 2,063 chemical assessments were completed in 2006. Of those, 1,034 were assessed as needing some sort of drug treatment or intervention. 219 youth attended the drug intervention program. 147 youth were enrolled in the Supportive Outpatient Program, and 219 were enrolled in the Day Treatment Program.
