The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.

Edgefield,
Greenbrier County, West Virginia
Originally built or expanded in 1897 by Pocahontas County livestock dealer George W. Whiting. Edgefield’s historic significance spans the years 1935-1960, when Floy Whiting Whorrell (a widow and daughter of George W. Whiting) actively managed the farm. Floy made her mark on the community as a single female farm operator, expanding Edgefield’s production capacity and introduced innovations in dairy farming to the area, including surge milkers and elevated milking platforms.

Discuss concerns and share ideas with state National Register coordinators, grant administrators, and other SHPO, FPO, and THPO staff on how to promote and to maintain historic preservation programs in light of staff and budget shortages.

New National Register Forms
Our new forms have been approved by OMB. These forms were introduced in April, and have now been accepted.
Summary of Changes:
• accept lat/long coordinates
• easier formatting
• allows an alternative to the USGS map.

July 19th GIS webinar recording: Using GIS for Latitude & Longitude Coordinates for NR
This webinar covered the use of on-line mapping programs to determine latitude and longitude coordinates in lieu of UTM references for National Register nominations. The webinar will provide step-by-step guidance on the use of Google Earth, BING Maps, ArcGIS Explorer, and a true ArcGIS application.
