Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity Education Workshop

Purpose:

On August 11th and 12th, 2010 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will hold a workshop - Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity Education - hosted by NIST, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Education (DOE), the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). The propose of this workshop is to share with other federal, state and local governments, industry, academia, non-government organizations, and the general public the larger agenda for the new education initiative known as NICE – the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education.

NICE has evolved from and expanded upon the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative (CNCI) Expand Education initiative, extending its scope beyond the federal workplace to include cybersecurity awareness and training for civilians and formal education for students in kindergarten through post-graduate school. The goal of NICE is to establish an operational, sustainable and continually improving cybersecurity education program for the nation to use sound cyber practices that will enhance the nation’s security and economic well-being. This workshop will focus on plans for each of the four tracks that are NICE: 1) National Cybersecurity Awareness, 2) Formal Cybersecurity Education, 3) Federal Cybersecurity Workforce Structure, and 4) Cybersecurity Workforce Training and Professional Development.
