NIST to Host Workshop on Cryptography for New Technologies

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host a workshop on cryptography for new technologies from Nov. 7-8, 2011, at the agency’s Gaithersburg, Md., campus.

As the Internet evolves, it is becoming possible for objects other than typical computers to connect to it—such as DVD players that can link to video-streaming websites, for example. The Workshop on Cryptography for Emerging Technologies and Applications will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about the challenges in creating security for these new situations, as well as NIST's current cryptographic programs and standards development. Subjects to be covered include sensor and building networks, mobile devices, smart objects/Internet of things, and cyber physical systems.

In preparation for the workshop, NIST is calling for abstracts that address these topic areas. The submission deadline is September 26, 2011, at 5 p.m. Eastern time. Abstracts should be sent to ceta-workshop@nist.gov, using the subject line: "CETA Workshop Abstract Submission."
