Nimalie Stone, MD
Dr. Nimalie Stone is the Medical Epidemiologist for Long-term Care in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to joining CDC, she was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Emory University where she served as the healthcare epidemiologist for Emory’s geriatric hospital and long-term care facility at Wesley Woods Center. Her clinical and research efforts were focused on managing infections and antibiotic resistant pathogens in the elderly long-term care population.
In her role at DHQP, Dr. Stone coordinates the development of infection prevention and surveillance programs for the long-term care setting. She supports state and federal programs which increase awareness and provide resources for infection prevention and control in skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes. She also collaborates with the many partners who are engaged in reducing healthcare-associated infections in the long-term care setting including the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long-term Care (NADONA/LTC) and the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA).
