In cases involving large money settlements, payment may be extended over a period of time rather than provided as a lump sum. Settlements utilizing these extended payment schedules are called structured settlements. Structured settlement schedules can be rather complex. The Civil Division engages licensed structured settlement brokers to administer settlement payments according to their schedules.
