Office of Civil Rights Investigative Findings

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Office of Justice Programs, which is responsible for external civil rights enforcement not only for recipients of OJP financial assistance but also for recipients of financial assistance from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), has decided, as of FY 2011 (commencing October 1, 2010), to post its written investigative findings online as they become available.

The OCR has also posted selected investigative findings for FY 2010, and it will periodically post prior investigative findings from its archive throughout FY 2011.

The OCR has organized the posted findings in two broad categories (1) Letters of Finding that address the resolution of administrative complaints and (2) Compliance Review Reports that address whether a recipient, based on an OCR-initiated investigation, is in compliance with the applicable federal civil rights laws.

Citing Investigative Findings

In referring to the posted online findings, the OCR recommends the following citation forms:

For Letters of Finding

[Recipient], No. NN-OCR-NNNN, Office for Civ. Rts. Ltr. of Finding (U.S. Dep't of Justice [date]), [Internet address].

For Compliance Review Reports

[Recipient], No. NN-OCR-NNNN, Office for Civ. Rts. Compl. Rev. Rep. (U.S. Dep't of Justice [date]), [Internet address].
