On May 19, 2010, the National Intergovernmental Audit Forum (NAIF) presented the Inspector General, Stuart W. Bowen, Jr., with its 2010 David M. Walker Excellence in Government Performance and Accountability Award for outstanding federal oversight work.

The NAIF is an association of audit executives from federal, state, and local governments. Its membership includes the Comptroller General of the United States, all federal Inspectors General, and the heads of state and local audit organizations. The NAIF’s mission focuses on enhancing coordination and cooperation among its members, the private sector, and other accountability organizations and improving governmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Every two years, the NIAF recognizes one individual each from the federal, state, and local oversight communities to be recognized at their biennial meeting. The NAIF’s decision to recognize Inspector General Bowen its 2010 Federal Award is indicative not only of the respect accorded to him by his peers, but also of the broader oversight community’s high opinion of SIGIR’s work.
