The Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission permanently loaned statues of Tennessee legislator Joe Hanover and suffragist and civil rights leader Ida B. Wells to the Equality Trailblazers Monument in Memphis, Tennessee.

Hanover ensured that the 19th Amendment came to a vote in Tennessee in August 1920, and Wells started her career as a journalist and activist in Memphis. The monument will open to the public December 2020.

Many thanks to the WSCC for their support of the Memphis Suffrage Monument “Equality Trailblazers.” Their sponsorship of the Ida B. Wells and Rep. Joe Hanover busts helped us to preserve this important history so future generations will know about these remarkable people. It was a pleasure working with the WSCC team with our shared passion for preserving woman suffrage history.
