Is Shrek 5 in the process of making? The Hollywood Reporter cited sources in July 2016 saying that the fifth film was planned for a 2019 release. However, that was not possible due to many hindrances. It was in first in the year 2016 that the production gave a clue about the release of Shrek 5. But due to some internal matters, it couldn’t make it to the screens.

However, in February 2014, in an interview with Fox Business Network, Katzenberg hinted that a fifth film could still be made. “We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest,” he said of the characters. “But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he,” Katzenberg added.
In July 2016, The Hollywood Reporter cited sources saying that Shrek 5 was planned for a 2019 release. In September 2016, Eddie Murphy confirmed that Shrek 5 was expected to be released in 2019 or 2020, and that the script had been completed.
To add a final back up to the growing confusions about the upcoming fifth franchise of Shrek, NBC Universal and Dreamworks confirmed in 2016 that it would be made to complete the five-movie franchise. Centering our foot on some leaked reports, Shrek 5 will be out in September 2022. The filming is likely to commence at the ending phase of this year. The characters in Shrek 5 is going to be same but the movie creators want to introduce a new plot and theme.
The studio signed up Michael McCullers to work as the new writer for Shrek 5. He has been given the task of giving some new twists in the storyline and create everything new. The script for Shrek 5 is also complete. “I finished that script which I really, really, really love. It’s really personal to me. It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal,” CinemaBlend quoted Michael McCullers saying.
