Anna Laymon was the Executive Director of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). In her role as Executive Director, Anna was responsible for coordinating the nationwide celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment.  Prior to joining the WSCC, Anna worked as the Director of Partnerships and Public Programs for the National Woman’s Party, the historic nonprofit founded in 1913 to ensure the passage of a suffrage amendment to the U.S. Constitution. While there, she built a coalition of women’s historians and women-centered nonprofits to lift up women’s history and explore issues of women’s equality today.  Anna has an MA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Cincinnati and has spent her career in dynamic, women-centered organizations across the U.S. She brought her many years of experience to her role at the Commission and was honored to have led the nationwide efforts to celebrate this milestone of American democracy.

Candace Samuels was the Staff Director for the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). She was responsible for managing the Commission’s daily efforts in the areas of public engagement, federal guidance, logistical planning and providing support for senior leadership.  Prior to joining the WSCC, Candace worked for numerous federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, Department of Agriculture, and the General Services Administration. Candace has worked with several administrations with a primary focus on strategic organizational development and human resources advisory services. Throughout her career, Candace has worked in multiple roles, including executive resources, personnel, employee development, strategic planning, and finance.  Candace is currently pursuing a degree in Family and Social Studies from Temple University. She was excited for an opportunity to share the colorful history of the suffrage movement. Candace was proud to apply the key factors of the federal workforce to such a historic initiative.

Kelsey Millay was the Director of Communications for the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). Kimberly Wallner was the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC), where she developed programs, partnerships, and events to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of ratification of the 19th Amendment.  Kimberly has spent her career developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with members of Congress, think tanks, and advocacy organizations. Prior to joining the WSCC, Kimberly served as Vice President for Policy Promotion and Outreach at The Heritage Foundation, where she developed strategy and oversaw execution of educational outreach and programming for members of Congress and Congressional staff. Earlier in her career, Kimberly served in senior positions in the U.S. Congress where she focused on policy development and coalition building.  Kimberly received a BS in Psychology and History from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and she was excited to bring this inspiring history to life through her work for this momentous milestone.

Gabriela Hernandez was the Program Coordinator for the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). She was responsible for the execution of the Commission’s goals by providing leadership and support to the more than 50 projects and programs the WSCC had planned for the centennial year.  Prior to joining the WSCC, Gabriela worked for her local government’s parks and recreation department in South Florida, where she learned all about community program coordinating and education through event planning. That experience transitioned into her work as a Congressional Liaison for the nonprofit organization, Pay Our Interns, where she led the relationship between the organization and congressional offices.  Gabriela received a BA in Political Science and International Relations from Florida International University, and has started her career strong by moving to Washington, D.C. and working for the federal government. She is thankful to have had the opportunity to share suffrage history throughout the centennial year as well as work with an incredible and inspiring group of women.

Stephanie Marsellos was the Communications and Program Specialist for the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). She was responsible for the Commission’s digital media efforts, content development, and communication strategy. As the Designated Federal Officer, Stephanie also served as the liaison to the public, providing all Commission details, meeting minutes, and updates.  Prior to working at the WSCC, Stephanie worked as a Content Marketing and Analytics Assistant at Florida International University’s (FIU) Center for Leadership. At FIU, Stephanie developed digital content and communication strategies for The Center’s leadership development programs. After her time at The Center, Stephanie worked in Public Affairs for the Bureau of Land Management as a Program Analyst in Washington, D.C., where she developed strategic digital content and contributed to the U.S. Department of the Interior’s blog.  Stephanie earned a BS in Communications with a concentration in Marketing from Florida International University, and was excited to bring her creativity, eye for detail, and passion for women’s empowerment to the team.
