The Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) was developed and is maintained by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

Purpose
PNDS is a standardized perioperative nursing vocabulary that describes diagnoses, interventions, and patient outcomes.

Description
PNDS contains 93 nursing diagnoses; 151 nursing interventions; and 38 nurse-sensitive patient outcomes. Links are expressed between diagnoses and outcomes and interventions and outcomes.

Metathesaurus Scope
PNDS outcomes are organized into five domains. The domains are Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Knowledge, Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Rights/Ethics, Health Safety, Physiologic Responses, and Safety.

The Health Safety domain does not include any outcomes.

PNDS outcomes and interventions include descriptive text and examples as attribute data.
