The Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) was developed and is
maintained by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses
(AORN).
Purpose
PNDS is a standardized perioperative nursing vocabulary that
describes diagnoses, interventions, and patient outcomes.
Description
PNDS contains 93 nursing diagnoses; 151 nursing interventions; and 38 nurse-sensitive patient outcomes.
Links are expressed between diagnoses and outcomes and interventions and outcomes.
Metathesaurus Scope
PNDS outcomes are organized into five domains. The domains are
Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Knowledge,
Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Rights/Ethics,
Health Safety, Physiologic Responses, and Safety.
The Health Safety domain does not include any outcomes.
PNDS outcomes and interventions include descriptive text and examples as attribute data.
Audience
PNDS is used by nurses and clinicians involved in the field of
perioperative care.
