Fourth of July Emergency Room Visits Double for Underage Males

With outdoor concerts, fireworks, and picnics, the Fourth of July holiday weekend has traditionally been a busy time for everyone—especially for hospital emergency departments!
According to a new report by SAMHSA, emergency room visits involving underage drinking double for males during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. It turns out that during the holiday weekend of July 3–5, 2009, there was a daily average of 942 emergency department visits related to alcohol use by people under the age of 21.
