Last week’s launch of Google Drive, a cloud-based platform offering 5GB of free storage, may have been big news, but perhaps bigger was the simultaneous launch of an associated Drive API and several Drive-enabled apps in the Chrome Web Store. The move implies that Drive is not just another Google product, but a step toward creating a larger ecosystem of online apps backed by Google services.
This week we had 62 new APIs added to our API directory including a cloud storage service, people search directory, document automation and production service, POS transaction processing, social media trend monitoring and search service and a geolocation service for words and phrases. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.
This past week 10 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 20 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include 7digital, Are You Watching This, ArtistData, Bing Traffic, ESPN, Groups Near You, Grove.io, Social Actions, US Yellow Pages, Yahoo My Web Search and Zotero. The most often used APIs this week are Blogger, KooKoo and US Yellow Pages. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Music (2 APIs, 2 mashups) and Social (2 APIs, 2 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

The company has access to an amazing amount of data surrounding a seemingly endless list of topics. Now, with the Pearson Kitchen Manager API developers can tap into at least a portion of Pearson’s knowledge base.
