14 APIs Used in 7 Days: Google Maps, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube

This past week 18 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 14 different APIs were used to build them. and ome of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Mappy. The most often used APIs this week are DonorsChoose, Google Maps and Twitter. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (3 APIs, 9 mashups), Photos (2 APIs, 3 mashups) and Social (2 APIs, 5 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

Our previous coverage of the contest asked readers to go and vote for the applications that they liked. This was part of the public voting phase that ended on August 29, 2010. Mobile Commerce Gets Easy With Appcelerator and PayPal

That’s why mobile platform company Appcelerator recently announced its integration with the PayPal API. Now iPhone, Android and iPad developers using the paid version of the company’s Titanium framework also get the ability to conduct mobile commerce.

Facebook developers–all one million of them–can now monetize their apps using PayPal. The new partnership between the companies was announced at PayPal X Innovate, the online payment service’s conference. PayPal’s new micropayments will be integrated into Facebook for its virtual currency.


10 New APIs: Twitter Search, URL Shortening and Weather Forecasts

Already this week we had 10 new APIs added to our API directory including a book sharing service, URL shortening service, local events search services, school finder, weather forecasting service, e-signature and agreement execution service, status message search engine, e-commerce CMS, shopping cart service and money management platform. How Digg’s API Exposed 159 Fake Accounts Digg Claims Were Internal Tests

DiggA Digg community member, suspicious of some top links, used the site’s Digg API to uncover a 159 fake accounts. By comparing the stories voted on by these accounts to other stories, he discovered what appeared to be directed fraud and what Digg now calls “tests to find spam vulnerabilities.” We spoke to the community member to learn how he used the site’s API and what he learned.


Four Ways Developers Can Use Google Fusion Tables

Google Fusion TablesA little over a year ago, Google released a new product called Google Fusion Tables. Fusion Tables allows you to upload, merge, share, and visualize large tables of tabular data. Basically, we wanted to answer the question “I have a spreadsheet. I want to share it with people and create a map/bar chart/storyline/other visualization.” Google Spreadsheets, while powerful, couldn’t handle the 100 meg upload we allow for Fusion Tables. And, being Google, we also provided something for developers.
