Return to Population Modeling Special Interest Group

--HuntTC 20:37, 27 October 2012 (EDT)

The Unabridged Merriam-Webster provides the following population definitions. All seem applicable. 1 a : the whole number of people or inhabitants occupying a specific geographical locality 3 a : a body of persons having some quality or characteristic in common and usually thought of as occupying a particular area 3 b (1) : the organisms inhabiting a particular area or biotope 3 b (2) : a group of interbreeding biotypes that represents the level of organization at which speciation begins 4 : a group of individual persons, objects, or items from which samples are taken for measurement statistically

Definition suggestion: a computational model that contains or, upon execution, generates entities that map to all or part of a referent population (as defined above) may be engaged in "population modeling." Those entities may or may not be a primary feature of the model's use.

Definition suggestion: When model or generated entities (as defined above) are a primary focus of the model's use case, then that model is of interest to this group.
