Two Servers to Retire: eos.nih.gov and silver.cit.nih.govCIT has begun the process of re-architecting the environment for our shared hosting service offering. Over the next few months we will move the hosted databases to different hardware and a different operating system, and retire the two original servers, eos.nih.gov and silver.cit.nih.gov. The evolving service This shared hosting service, which supports multiple Oracle databases in single server environments, started in 1997 on the server eos.nih.gov. Through the years the server has been upgraded, resources have been enhanced, and an additional server, silver.cit.nih.gov, was added to the service. The current environment, AlphaServer hardware and Tru64 Operating System, is nearing the end of its vendor support. These servers are being replaced by Intel-Itanium-based hosts running HP-UX. The new environment will offer customers enhanced capability, flexibility, and availability. Preparing for the transition CIT has been meeting with owners of applications running on eos.nih.gov and silver.cit.nih.gov in order to ensure a smooth transition. The new environment will be available for production migrations starting on June 1, 2010. Questions? If you have any questions regarding the retirement of the eos.nih.gov and silver.cit.nih.gov servers, please contact the NIH IT Service Desk at http://itservicedesk.nih.gov/ or 301-496-4357 (6-HELP) (local), 866-319-4357 (toll free), or 301-496-8294 (TTY). |
