Data: What People Do with Mobile Devices

National Archives goes mobile

Mobile mania continues. The reasons why we, in government, must include these platforms in our content and citizen engagement strategies grow daily. Consider two studies:

InMobi says mobile media consumption is changing user behavior. Overall, people are spending more time on their devices doing primarily three things:

  • Accessing entertainment
  • Getting news updates
  • Shopping

And when mobile use spikes in the morning during commute times, the most popular activities are:

  • Reading and sending email
  • Social networking
  • Getting news updates

The InMobi findings confirm the  results of  Nielsen’s fourth quarter A2/M2 Three Screen Report which shows that the mobile video audience jumped 70%, while time spent watching online video increased 46%, or by 59 minutes over the same period.

In addition, more than half (57%) of Americans with internet access are using their TV and accessing the internet simultaneously at least once a month.

Where are you seeing great gov innovation for tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices?
