I strongly condemn the murder of Ambassador Stevens, a Northern California native and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and the three other members of the diplomatic mission to Libya. These men and women dedicated themselves to selflessly ser...ving our country and partnering with the Libyan people to build a new democratic government. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of these patriots. Their legacy of service will live on. My full statement here: http://1.usa.gov/RINR09. Exactly one year ago, the President introduced the American Jobs Act, legislation that would add two million jobs to our economy without adding a dime to the deficit. The American Jobs Act would speed up our recovery with traditionally bipa...rtisan proposals - tax cuts, infrastructure investments, and rehiring firefighters and police officers recently laid off because of local budget cuts. It is time for obstruction of this bill to end, so that more Americans can go back to work.See More- Bret Olsen, an Acalanes High School graduate currently attending Cal Poly, went missing on Sunday while rafting on the Sacramento River in the Chico area. - The Sacramento region is at grave risk of a flood. Conservative estimates of direct flood damages in the area exceed $25 billion. Speaking at a Floodplain Management Conference yesterday, I reemphasized the need for federal funding, but als...o outlined a series of steps at the state level that we can take right now to help protect our community. We can pay now for prevention or we can pay substantially more when the once the destruction has come to our homes and businesses. More: http://1.usa.gov/TsDhcA.See More

Joined members of our community last night to pay tribute to California Highway Patrol officer Kenyon Youngstrom, who has passed away after being shot in the line of duty. It is important that we stand by the Youngstrom family not just today and tomorrow but in the years ahead. The clean energy sector is growing at 8.3% a year and employs 320,000 workers in California alone. As our economy transitions from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy, we need to ensure that we manufacture that clean energy technology in America. Watch my interview on Medicare below. The AARP has warned that the 2012 Ryan Republican plan “is likely to simply increase costs for beneficiaries while removing Medicare’s promise of secure health coverage." More info on why current and future seniors would pay more under the Republican proposal: http://1.usa.gov/PZ70Xf & www.bit.ly/MediCoupon. AARP letter: http://1.usa.gov/PQ8mSG- UPDATE: At 9:30 AM PT/ 12:30 PM ET, I will be on the Fox News show America's News Headquarters to discuss Medicare. - Sunday morning at 9 AM PT/ 12 PM ET, I will be on the Fox News show America's News Headquarters to discuss Medicare. While the Affordable Care Act strengthens Medicare by lowering costs and expanding benefits for seniors, the Ryan Republica...n plan would end Medicare as we know it by forcing seniors to pay substantially more for their health care. The graphic below shows how much more Americans of all ages would pay for health care during their retirement. More info: http://bit.ly/GOPMediCare.See More
- Big win for the American people: The White House and the U.S. auto industry have agreed on fuel economy standards for cars and light trucks. This action will save the average family $8,200 at the pump, reduce our reliance on foreign oil, prevent 6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide pollution, and help protect the air we breathe. Click below for more info.
- The Ryan-Republican budget would force current and future seniors to pay substantially more for their medical care. Look at the image below to find out how much more you would pay. Their plan would convert Medicare into an underfunded vouch...er system. It slashes Medicaid funding by a third, placing an additional burden on nine million of our poorest seniors (many in nursing homes). By repealing the health care law, it raises prescription drug costs and ends free preventative care. I strongly oppose this plan. More info: http://bit.ly/GOPSeniorFeeSee More

Yesterday I met with my Veterans Advisory Committee. Today I joined the Yuba-Sutter Stand Down for homeless and struggling veterans. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the events was the fact that a lot of services out there for veterans are...n't reaching the people that stand to benefit. - While giving tax breaks to millionaires & billionaires, the Ryan Republican budget would kick two million children out of the Head Start preschool program. This is appalling. Early education is crucial to giving kids from disadvantaged back...grounds a chance to climb out of poverty.
