Partner with Purpose

Just like you, the Medical Reserve Corps has a strong interest in improving the lives of others. By making a strong and positive impact in local communities, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers engage in strengthening public health, emergency response and community resiliency. Through collaboration with departments of health, emergency management, police, first responders, community organizations, and other volunteer programs and local groups, the MRC is building awareness for public health initiatives, such as disease prevention and health literacy, as well as better preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies. One example is how several MRC units have developed partnerships with local emergency responders to provide firefighter rehabilitation services following a response.

MRC units will often partner with their local health departments and local emergency management agency to hold a large-scale point of dispensing exercise or disaster drill that directly addresses their community's vulnerabilities. MRC units have also established Memorandums of Understanding with their local American Red Cross chapters to support sheltering operations in response to local emergencies. Through these partnerships that support health and safety, these communities are more likely to respond well to emergencies and rebuild more quickly.

The MRC provides its partners with an avenue for resource sharing, training opportunities, volunteers, medical and public health expertise, cross-promotion of initiatives, and so much more. One instance is MRC units work with local schools, health clinics, and hospitals to support public health education and prevention efforts that involve supporting large scale immunization clinics and providing health screenings to underserved communities.
