The U.S. Postal Service is using a management process known as Delivering Results, Innovation, Value and Efficiency (DRIVE) to improve business performance at an accelerated pace that will meet the critical needs of operating in today’s competitive and challenging marketplace. The DRIVE process is a structured approach to organizing operational and management activities that facilitates cross-functional dialogue and collaboration, provides streamlined reporting and accountability, and incorporates measurement, analysis, and evaluation of initiatives.

The mission of the Retail, Business, and International (RBI) team is to assess and review programs and processes that protect and generate revenue for the Postal Service. In addition, the team will address and evaluate various DRIVE initiatives for these three aspects of Postal Service operations. The team will also maintain a risk model developed as a tool for analyzing data and identifying trends that may indicate high-risk areas and opportunities for improving operations.

Retail

The Postal Service is improving services, reduce costs, and generate revenue by:

  • Expanding the Village Post Office Concept.
  • Optimizing Delivery Units.
  • Increasing workforce flexibility from union agreements.
  • Reducing labor costs in small offices by substituting additional access points.
  • Optimizing Retail Access.
  • Reducing ‘Wait Time in Line’.
Business

The Postal Service is developing strategies to better protect and increase revenue within the business mail channel. It is addressing key strategic initiatives that improve the ability to collect payments from commercial mailers through mail acceptance and enterprise payment technology by:

  • Improving service processes, automation and standardization (streamlined acceptance).
  • Making mail intelligent.
  • Enabling flexible payment methods and funding options.
  • Developing flexible networks.
International

The Postal Service continues to work on growing profitable revenue, developing innovative solutions, and building integrated relationships with worldwide partners by:

  • Partnering with other posts and commercial entities to increase revenue focusing on high value countries.
  • Growing revenue through development of competitive products, increasing pricing flexibility; and enhancing eCommerce web and mail room tools.
  • Increasing the international package business.
