State Population Projections

The U.S. Census Bureau does not have a current set of state population projections and currently has no plans to produce them.

Users are encouraged to access the Census Bureau’s current population estimates, which are produced at the state level, as well as other lower levels of geography. You may also contact states directly for projections (states that produce projections).

Historical State Projections from the Census Bureau

We recommend that you exercise caution when using these historical state projections because populations trends may have changed substantially since their release.

The latest state projections by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin were based on the 1990 Census and released in 1996. The latest state projections by age and sex only were based on Census 2000 and were released in 2005. See the links below to access these data.
