Training

HUD Field Environmental Officers provide basic training on Environmental Procedures at a variety of locations during each year.

Contact the Environmental Officer in your area to determine what Environmental Training courses are scheduled closest to you.

These courses are for individuals involved in preparing Environmental Reviews, including individual representatives for state and local governments as well as nonprofit organizations submitting applications or existing grantees for HUD programs.

August 8, 2012 Clean Air Act. Online webinar.
Includes a brief history of the Clean Air Act (CAA) plus introduction on how to use the regulation to bring a proposed HUD-assisted site location into compliance; other related laws and authorities, asbestos guidance, definition of CAA terms, and case examples.

Tribal Consultation about Historic Cultural and Religious Properties in Section 106 Review of HUD Projects Online Webinar
(For THPOs and tribal governments only)
This interactive webinar will showcase the new tools and protocols and will explain how Responsible Entities (REs) are expected to consult with tribes about historic properties in Section 106 review of HUD projects. It will be of interest to tribes and Tribal Historic Preservation Officers who are invited to consult by REs, and to tribes who sometimes serve as REs for projects on tribal lands.

Environmental Justice at HUD: Why, What, and How Online Webinar
The Department's process for Environmental Justice analysis is explored in detail. Terminology is explained. A broad process is offered. Expectations and goals of public participation and mitigation are presented. Actual projects are combined with illustrative examples to show how HUD considers Environmental Justice within its environmental review process. The intended audience is HUD grantees and staff, but consultants, environmental professionals, and community residents will find informative the issues that define "decent, suitable housing."

Historic Preservation and HUD
Online Webinar
Historic preservation includes a wide range of activities that promote sustainable community development and offer protection of irreplaceable historic and archeological resources. This webinar will provide attendees with an overview of preservation principles, qualifications for “historic” status, tools available for development of historic buildings, regulations that protect historic properties, and examples of HUD programs that can assist communities in reaching local housing and community development goals through preservation.
