This position is located in the Inspection Division (IG), Office of Security Programs (IS), Information Security Section(ISI).  The incumbent serves as an IT Specialist with responsibility for providing operational and technical advice in matters relation to information security.   The work involves ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.

The incumbent identifies conflicts or deviations from acceptable and/or current practices.  Researches and/or analyzes simple administrative program related IT issues or problems.  Determines pertinent issues and collects relevant information from a variety of sources.   Participates in defining information technology security requirements, implementing and supporting IT security applications.   Participates in identifying and writing specifications to meet IT security requirements.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

 

GS-9

You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Federal grade level in performing such duties as reviewing security alerts and identifying potential threats searching system, application, or network logs to troubleshoot problems performing basic administrative tasks for operating systems.

OR

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in an accredited college or university, or a J.D, if related. Such education must demonstrate the skills needed to do the work. A course of study in IT Security, Cyber Security Administration, or related fields is qualifying.

 

GS-11

You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 Federal grade level in performing such duties as responding to information requests, evaluating the IT security programs of an organization, reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies.

OR

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. A course of study in IT Security, Cyber Security administration, or related fields is qualifying.

 

GS-12

You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 Federal grade level in performing such duties as responding to information requests, evaluating the IT security programs of an organization, reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies, developing, implementing or, and identifying where there is a need for changes based on new security technologies or threats, providing advice and instructions to staff on IT security issues, and/or working with other IT specialists.  

 

GS-13

You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 Federal grade level in performing such duties as analyzing the design of cyber security systems; identifying needs for network security changes based on new cyber security technologies or threats; analyzing and defining the security requirements for new or modified network security protection applications; resolving integration/interoperability issues related to the implementation of new cyber security technologies with the existing systems infrastructure.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)/Competencies:  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

 

1.  Ability to communicate in writing.

2.  Ability to plan and execute work.

3.  Knowledge of cyber security operations.

4.  Knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of information security examination.

5.  Knowledge of designs, developments, implementations, and maintenance of IT security systems and programs.

   

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
