A NACoA affiliate is a local, regional, state, or national non-profit organization whose work and mission is compatible with and strengthened by affiliation with NACoA’s work and mission to eliminate the adverse impact of alcohol and drug use on children and families. NACoA affiliates are varied in organization, scope, and approach. Many provide prevention, intervention, or treatment services. Some develop community coalitions. Some are focused on teens and children, others on minority populations. Some are located in countries outside the United States. Betty Ford Center Children’s Program offers education, support, and hope to 7-12-year-olds impacted by a loved one’s addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs. Through age-appropriate games, stories, art, and play, children learn about addiction, especially that it’s not their fault, deepen communication skills, develop a variety of positive coping skills, and celebrate their intrinsic worth. No child is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.

Children of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc. (COASA) supports children of alcoholism and substance abuse in Boston, MA by advocating for them in community forums and by developing appropriate supportive educational groups for them. The Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps, a not-for-profit child-welfare organization based in Boston, is initiating advocacy and developing resources for the children of Massachusetts through the COASA program. COASA facilitates school and community-based prevention/intervention services, adapting them to the particular needs of the children it serves. COASA provides children with a framework for understanding what they are experiencing and teaches them to break the “don’t talk, don’t trust, don’t feel” rules they live with at home and to learn about the “seven Cs”. Father Martin’s Ashley provides treatment and services on a private 42-acre campus on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Co-founded by Father Joseph C. Maplegrove Community Education and Children’s Programs, a part of Henry Ford Health System’s Maplegrove Center, provides free educational support group activities for children and youth from high stress families, especially those with chemically dependent parents or parents with mental health issues. These programs are offered in two week day camp settings in the summer and evening weekly programs during the school year. A special educational group for parents is also offered. These programs are intended to bring help now and prevent emotional and substance abuse problems during adolescence and later in life. NACOA Deutschland- Interessenvertretung fur Kinder aus suchtfamilien e.V. was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organization under German law. It aims to “improve the situation of children from addicted families, to inform the public about the problems of children from addicted families by means of public relations work and the provision of assistance for these children.” NACOA Deutschland advocates for children and families at the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and works with its Children’s Commission and the National Drug Commissioner. In cooperation with the Berlin Senate for Education, it participates in training for teachers engaged in drug prevention in the schools. The Neighborhood Center, Inc provides a full range of outreach, preventive, developmental and therapeutic human services for nearly 20,000 people in the local and surrounding communities – a majority are children and their families. Pavillon. The Children's Program at Pavillion is a free of charge, substance abuse prevention education and support program for children ages 6-14 who have a family member(s) with alcoholism or other addictions. Children learn healthy coping and social skills in a nurturing and comfortable environment which allows them to feel safe and express their emotions. The program provides children with a framework for understanding addiction as a family disease while increasing their resilience and moving toward healing. Recovery Resources of Cleveland, Ohio is a large prevention, intervention and treatment service and education agency serving residents of Northeast Ohio and their families. Seabrook House is an internationally recognized private inpatient drug rehab and alcoholism detox treatment center whose vision is Helping Families Find the Courage to Recover. Voices United is located in Silicon Valley and since 1971 has promoted lifestyles free of the need for alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs.
