Affiliates A NACoA affiliate is a local, regional, state, or national non-profit organization whose work and mission is compatible with and strengthened by affiliation with NACoA’s work and mission to eliminate the adverse impact of alcohol and drug use on children and families. NACoA affiliates are varied in organization, scope, and approach. Many provide prevention, intervention, or treatment services. Some develop community coalitions. Some are focused on teens and children, others on minority populations. Some are located in countries outside the United States. The Alcoholism Council of the Cincinnati Area, NCADD, provides a broad range of ATOD education and community services. Service to families through the reduction of problems related to alcoholism and other drug dependency is a strong part of the Council's mission. Service activity focuses on prevention, community, and professional education. 2828 Vernon Place Association of Persons Affected by Addiction (APAA) is a non-profit organization with the purpose of providing recovery support services for individuals in or seeking recovery from alcohol or drug addiction. APAA is a peer-driven and peer-led recovery community support program that offers peer-to-peer recovery management and promotes volunteerism within the recovery community. APAA is a leading Recovery Community Support Organization that encourages and supports personal recovery by offering non-clinical peer to peer assistance that helps support recovery, reduce relapse, and promote high-level wellness in individuals, families and the community. 2438 Butler Street, Suite 120 Bay Area Substance Education Services (BASES) located in Charlevoix, MI, is recognized as a leader in adolescent substance abuse prevention, early intervention and treatment in northwest lower Michigan. BASES’s Teen Center offers a drug free and safe environment for social and recreational activities as well counseling and education services. 208 W. Lincoln Betty Ford Center Children’s Program offers education, support, and hope to 7-12-year-olds impacted by a loved one’s addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs. Through age-appropriate games, stories, art, and play, children learn about addiction, especially that it’s not their fault, deepen communication skills, develop a variety of positive coping skills, and celebrate their intrinsic worth. No child is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. The Betty Ford Center Children’s Program -California: The California based Betty Ford Center Children’s Program is located on the campus of the Betty Ford Center and offers the program to children of clients in treatment and for children from the community. The Betty Ford Center Children’s Program – Texas: The Texas based program offers groups in both community and school settings. Parents, grandparents, or other caregivers participate with their children in the community groups. 1320 Greenway Drive, Suite 100 Brighton Center for Recovery has for more than 50 years provided treatment based on the belief that alcoholism is a physical, mental, and spiritual disease that can be treated with medical intervention, counseling and a strong spiritual life supported by 12-step programs. Brighton continues its legacy of help, hope and healing for individuals, families, and children through a variety of services including inpatient, outpatient, dual diagnosis, partial hospitalization, detox, and educational services. 12851 East Grand River Children of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc. (COASA) supports children of alcoholism and substance abuse in Boston, MA by advocating for them in community forums and by developing appropriate supportive educational groups for them. The Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps, a not-for-profit child-welfare organization based in Boston, is initiating advocacy and developing resources for the children of Massachusetts through the COASA program. COASA facilitates school and community-based prevention/intervention services, adapting them to the particular needs of the children it serves. COASA provides children with a framework for understanding what they are experiencing and teaches them to break the “don’t talk, don’t trust, don’t feel” rules they live with at home and to learn about the “seven Cs”. Committed to serving children and families, Community Healing Centers has seven sites throughout Southwest Michigan, offering "hope, health, and healing" through a range of professional counseling and support services. Programs are available in their offices, in homes, schools, churches, after-school programs, juvenile court, and a variety of community locations, reaching individuals where they are most comfortable. 2615 Stadium Drive Compass Health Care, Inc. serves addicted and mentally ill persons and their families by providing a comprehensive array of treatment, prevention and education activities in an atmosphere that promotes wellness and recovery at their six service and residential locations. Funding from the Southern Arizona Foundation and Compass Health Care’s annual membership drive has enabled the introduction of a new prevention program, Children First, that is utilizing SAMHSA Children’s Program Kit, developed by NACoA. 2475 North Jackrabbit Avenue Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation Programs, Inc. (CARP) is one of the largest, most comprehensive substance abuse programs operating under a single administration in South Florida. It provides prevention, education and treatment services to individuals and families affected by alcoholism and drug dependency to achieve an abstinence-based recovery. The continuum of care offers detoxification, residential, outpatient, aftercare, and case management services for adults and adolescents in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. 5410 East Avenue Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse for Greater New Orleans (CADA) is a non-profit community prevention agency established in 1960 that provides alcohol and other drug abuse prevention, education, advocacy, and referral services in a six-parish area. The mission of CADA is to prevent the misuse of alcohol and other drugs in order to promote and support healthy individuals and families and safe communities. 3520 General DeGaulle Drive, Suite 5010 The Delaware Association for Children of Alcoholics (DACOA) was established as a nonprofit corporation in October, 1987 and is the leading voice advocating at the state and local level for children of alcoholics. The association is dedicated to assisting children of alcoholics by promoting public awareness and understanding of their special needs and problems. DACOA provides seminars and free literature and makes treatment referrals throughout the state of Delaware. P.O. Box 344 DePaul's National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence-Rochester Area has as its mission the provision of research-based substance abuse and problem gambling prevention services through education, support, resources, advocacy and referral. It also works to achieve NCADD's purpose to reduce the incidence and prevalence of the disease of alcoholism and drug dependence. Since 1946 it has served the people of Rochester and Monroe Counties NY and is a longtime provider of prevention education for children of alcoholics and of other drug dependent parents. It provides community education and awareness and a wide array of training opportunities for professionals in addictions, education, and health and human services. Erie County Council for the Prevention of Alcohol & Substance Abuse has provided a wide range of information, education, advocacy, and training services to the people of the Buffalo, NY area since 1948. The Council's efforts to increase public awareness on issues related to substance abuse, to advocate for appropriate treatment, and to help break the intergenerational cycle of alcohol and other drug addiction. 1625 Hertel Avenue Family Services of Western Pennsylvania (FSWP) is a non-profit human services agency in the Pittsburgh area. FSWP has been providing family and individual counseling services for 50 years in multiple locations. FSWP offers a wide range of programs, including prevention services, support services, rehabilitation and training, community strengthening programs and supportive living services. 321 E. Fifth Avenue 800 Tydings Lane Glad House, Inc. in Cincinnati, OH, provides a wide range of services for children whose mothers are in or just have completed, residential treatment for substance abuse. It works with the whole family to break the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse and to re-establish healthy and stable family units through positive intervention for children while mothers are in, and after they complete, residential programs. 4721 Reading Road, Building A Graham Children’s Health Services of Toe River is a collaborative effort that involves, educates and unites the community for the design and implementation of strategies that will improve the health of children now and in the future. It is a community-based, community-led, volunteer coalition with the vision of every child in the Toe River Area achieving the best possible health. In addressing the mental health of children, a community-identified priority, it provides NACoA designed training to the community and to school counselors, nurses, resource officers and others from the county schools to better identify and support children impacted by family alcohol and drug use and addiction. 202 Medical Campus Drive Hanley Center, Inc. has for more than 20 years helped people struggling with addiction. With Help Becomes Hope as its vision and based on proven 12-step principles, Hanley Center offers a full continuum of care for alcoholism and chemical dependency. It offers primary residential treatment for men, women and older adults and a wide range of continuing care and patient support services designed to help ensure a lasting recovery. There is a commitment to tailor care to the individual and to prevention and education. The full range of services include addiction assessments, detoxification and medical stabilization, recovery centers specifically for men, women and older adults, individualized outpatient programs, prevention and education services, including support groups for children of addicted parents both in the Hanley Center and in the community, as well as training for addiction professionals. 933 45th Street Informed Families/The Florida Family Partnership is the State of Florida’s major universal provider of positive parenting skills, serving school age children and their families, while building parent networks throughout Florida. Affiliated with the National Family Partnership, Informed Families believes that parents need skills and support during a child’s teenage years and that parents are the change agents who create healthy social norms in the communities. Informed Families focuses on two universal campaigns: The Red Ribbon Campaign and Safe Homes/Safe Parties. Informed Families created The Parent Pilot Kit: A Guide for Parents of Pre-Teens & Teens, to help navigate parents through their children’s teenage years. 2490 Coral Way, Suite 301 Jackson Recovery Centers is a leading provider of addiction prevention and treatment services in Northwest Iowa for families, adults, adolescents, and children. It works to end the stigma associated with addiction and to educate the communities it serves. As part of a full continuum of addiction related services, Jackson provides services for gambling, sex addictions, compulsive shopping and internet addictions. 800 5th Street Lines for Life - Oregon Partnership was founded in 1993 as a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end substance abuse and suicide. Known for 20 years simply as Oregon Partnership, the organization promotes healthy communities through drug and alcohol awareness, prevention programs, and 24-hour crisis lines. It offers a suicide Lifeline (800-273-8255), a 24 hour alcohol and drug abuse counseling and referrals line (800-923-4357); a Youthline (877-968-8491)with peer-to-peer counseling for teens dealing with bullying and other issues; and a Military Helpline (888-457-4383). It also offers resources to the community on alcohol and other substance abuse, Post Traumatic Stress, suicide prevention, military suicide, prescription drug abuse, youth education on drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, as well as parenting resources for substance abuse prevention. 5100 SW Macadam Avenue, Suite 400 Maplegrove Community Education and Children’s Programs, a part of Henry Ford Health System’s Maplegrove Center, provides free educational support group activities for children and youth from high stress families, especially those with chemically dependent parents or parents with mental health issues. These programs are offered in two week day camp settings in the summer and evening weekly programs during the school year. A special educational group for parents is also offered. These programs are intended to bring help now and prevent emotional and substance abuse problems during adolescence and later in life. Maplegrove Community Education also offers free community education, professional training, and consulting services on addiction and its impact on families across four counties in southeastern Michigan. 6773 West Maple Road NACOA Deutschland- Interessenvertretung fur Kinder aus suchtfamilien e.V. was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organization under German law. It aims to “improve the situation of children from addicted families, to inform the public about the problems of children from addicted families by means of public relations work and the provision of assistance for these children.” NACOA Deutschland advocates for children and families at the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and works with its Children’s Commission and the National Drug Commissioner. In cooperation with the Berlin Senate for Education, it participates in training for teachers engaged in drug prevention in the schools. It has translated, printed, and distributed in partnership with the schools NACoA’s “Kit for Early Childhood Professionals” (Kinder aus suchtbelasteten Familien: Hilfen zur Unterstutzung in Kindertagesstatte und Grundschule). It has also translated many other NACoA documents and posted them on its website. NACOA Deutschland The National Association for Children of Alcoholics-United Kingdom addresses the plight of children growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism or similar addictive problems. It offers information, advice, and support directly to COAs through a free confidential Helpline and its web site. It also works to educate professionals who are in contact with COAs, to raise public awareness and promote research into the nature and extent of the problems they face. P.O. Box 64 National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence - Greater Detroit Area (NCADD/GDA), a long time affiliate of NCADD and the birth place of BABES – one of the earliest and still much-respected prevention programs for young children of alcoholics. NCADD/GDA offers a broad range of prevention, education, and intervention services throughout Southeastern Michigan as it has done for over twenty-five years. 2400 East McNichols The Neighborhood Center, Inc provides a full range of outreach, preventive, developmental and therapeutic human services for nearly 20,000 people in the local and surrounding communities – a majority are children and their families. Its human service roots date back to 1905 when it began as a settlement house assisting immigrants file citizenship papers. By 1936 the Center provided kindergarten (the first in Utica, NY) and homemaking classes and had a staff of five. In 1945 they adopted their present name, The Neighborhood Center, to reflect their changing community role and were the main provider of child care and other needed services, helping families become stronger and the community flourish. Through its sustained pattern of activities that benefit children, families and the community, today the Neighborhood Center, Inc. continues to advance in its enduring mission of truly "human" service by providing child care and family services, behavioural health care services, and a 24-hour no cost Mobile Crisis Assessment Team (MCAT). 293 Genesee Street Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan is the only organization in the Detroit area that offers non-criminal legal advocacy law-related education and supportive services for vulnerable individuals and fragile families. To break the cycle of homelessness, Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan pays budget counselors and partner agencies to provide counsel and case management services, security deposits, childcare, and essential items for eligible families to help promote health, safety and self-sufficiency. 455 West Fort Street, Suite 214 Pavillon. The Children's Program at Pavillion is a free of charge, substance abuse prevention education and support program for children ages 6-14 who have a family member(s) with alcoholism or other addictions. Children learn healthy coping and social skills in a nurturing and comfortable environment which allows them to feel safe and express their emotions. The program provides children with a framework for understanding addiction as a family disease while increasing their resilience and moving toward healing. Key messages in the program include: it is not your fault, you are not alone, it is important to express your feelings in a healthy way and with support and time people can recover. The Children’s Program works individually with each child to identify healthy goals and resources that can support them in reaching their goals. The program is offered to children with family members in recovery, but it is not a requirement for participation. Located in the foothills of the Western North Carolina Mountains, Pavillon provides residential and outpatient treatment, education and continuing care programs for patients and family members. Pavillon is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services, CARF. 241 Pavillon Place Recovery Resources of Cleveland, Ohio is a large prevention, intervention and treatment service and education agency serving residents of Northeast Ohio and their families. Included in the many services provided by Recovery Resources are outpatient treatment for substance abuse, targeted treatment programs for older adults, women, children, homeless men and women, ambulatory (home-based) detox, and HIV/AIDS. The agency is also part of the National Intervention Network, which provides a toll-free number and staff to assist callers concerned about a loved one’s drinking or drug use. 3950 Chester Avenue Renascent is a place for family recovery. Since 1970 Renascent has helped thousands of families reclaim their lives from addiction through its 12-step based treatment programs. It welcomes alcoholics, drug addicts, family members, and children as clients in their own right. Renascent treatment centers in the Greater Toronto Area offer short term residential and outpatient treatment and also distance learning recovery programs that connect with clients wherever they live. Seabrook House is an internationally recognized private inpatient drug rehab and alcoholism detox treatment center whose vision is Helping Families Find the Courage to Recover. The main rehab facility is in Bridgeton, NJ and there is an extended-care transitional rehab facility in Tioga County, PA. Seabrook House offers a three day Family Matrix Program for family members age 13 and older that allows families to begin to heal and strengthen familial bonds strained by addiction. It also offers on-going family counseling. In addition, Seabrook House provides a unique children's program for young people ages 7-12 whose lives are affected by addiction. 133 Polk Lane Student Assistance Services, Corporation (SAS) provides substance abuse prevention and early intervention services, programming and training in schools, residential facilities and community settings in Westchester County, NY and neighboring areas. The heart of SAS is the school-based Student Assistance Program operating in over 50 middle and high schools in the Westchester County area. 660 White Plains Road Student Assistance Training International (SATI) was organized in 1986 as Chemical Awareness Training Institute, Inc. to provide education and training in national model programs which are designed to prevent and treat alcohol and other drug abuse problems and dependencies. Located in Phoenix, AZ, today SATI serves the needs of children of alcoholics through in-depth training to schools and communities in the prevention and intervention of all high risk behavior and by offering state-of-the-art training in national program models. SATI has provided student assistance program and children of alcoholics training to schools in all 50 United States and internationally in 30 countries. 14820 North Cave Creek Road Suite 4 TASC, Inc. (Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities), a multi-site program, provides behavioral health recovery management services for individuals with substance abuse and mental health disorders. TASC provides direct services, designs model programs and builds collaborative networks between public systems and community-based human service providers. 1500 N. Halsted Street Troy Community Coalition for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all who live or work in Troy, Michigan, by promoting a lifestyle free from the abuse of drugs and alcohol. With a membership of 120 organizations and individuals, it has been successful in not only becoming a source of information and awareness of ATOD issues in the Troy community, but also a catalyst for policy and social change. The Coalition has developed and printed a community prevention plan which truly acts as a blueprint for Coalition activities and programming. 4420 Livernois Turning Point, Inc. is a social services organization that provides culturally-specific treatment, counseling and support groups to chemical substance users and abusers, HIV/AIDS/STD Education and Prevention, Education and Employment, Outreach services, Continuum of Care services to substance users and abusers, mothers and children. Known for its holistic approach, Turning Point works to assist their clients in achieving wellness and a self-supportive lifestyle. It has been a part of the African American communities in the Twin Cities for over 30 years. With headquarters in a recently built facility in North Minneapolis, Turning Point is also expanding via a new web site designed to be easier, simpler, and better to reach those most in need. 1500 Golden Valley Road Voices United is located in Silicon Valley and since 1971 has promoted lifestyles free of the need for alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs. Its work to free communities from addiction is driven by the knowledge that millions of Americans are affected by addiction, either their own or someone else’s. Voices United opens the door to understanding through resources and empowering people through a variety of opportunities including the Youthphoria Coalition to address underage and binge drinking. Voices United also operates a clearinghouse for information and free video/DVD lending library. Six times a year it publishes New Times for Healthy Lifestyle Choices, a newspaper with a circulation of 20,000; and every two weeks produces a local TV show, Perspectives on Healthy Living on CreaTV San Jose in partnership with the Pathway Society. A special focus of Voices United is to reach those who are affected by other people’s addiction - including children. 1415 Koll Circle, Suite 101 Volunteers of America of Alaska, Inc. provides programs that significantly impact the Anchorage community and the state of Alaska, with a goal to solve unmet needs with creativity and sensitivity, serving both those in need and those with a need to serve. It offers support for children whose lives have been impacted by substance abuse in the family through "Kids' Exploration, Intervention, and Support" (KEIS) groups and Camp Hope. 1675 C Street, Suite 201 White Bison, Inc. fosters the movement of American Indian communities into wellness and sober living.
