The Economic Census of Island Areas (IA) provides periodic and comprehensive data for economic activity and structure for American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands. United States Code, Title 13, authorizes this census and makes responding mandatory. Assistance with the census is provided by the government of each island area represented.

Data is published solely on American FactFinder (AFF), the Census Bureau's online, self-service data access tool.

The data is presented using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code, which is used to classify business establishments.
