Recording Studio - Employment

Thank you for your interest in the positions available at the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the Library of Congress (NLS). NLS produces books and magazines in recorded form for readers who are visually impaired or who cannot hold or handle conventional print because of temporary or permanent visual or physical handicaps. There are currently openings in the NLS Recording Studio for Narrator/Monitor/Reviewers and Monitor/Reviewers.

How to apply

If you are interested in a Monitor/Reviewer position, you need only submit a resume. If you are interested in a Narrator/Monitor/Reviewer position, in addition to your resume, you must submit a narration audition recording.

Guidelines for recording narrator audition

After you have read the guidelines and selected your audition material, practice recording your chosen material. When you are satisfied that it is your best effort, send it in via e-mail or COMMERCIAL, ACCOUNTABLE MAIL (see below) or drop off your material to the following address.

All resumes and audition materials must be received by close of business Friday, June 29, 2012.

VERY IMPORTANT: Due to government security precautions, all mail is processed and inspected. Therefore, if you send in your audition, it is imperative that you send your material via commercial, accountable mail ( e.g., FedEx, UPS). DO NOT send via U.S. Postal Service as your materials may be damaged or destroyed.

If you choose to submit your material via e-mail, send it to nlsrecstu@loc.gov. Be sure to put Applicant in the subject line.

Your submission should include your resume and (for Narrator/Monitor/Reviewer position) a narration audition clearly labeled with your name, telephone number, e-mail address and mailing address.

DO NOT send commercial demos or narration demos with music under the material. DO NOT send a picture/headshot.

Your audition will be evaluated by a review committee. If selected, you will be contacted for a further audition at the NLS Recording Studio.

This is a part-time position. There is no paid leave. Narrators generally work 12-20 hours per week as scheduled. All production is done on-site at the NLS Recording Studio from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. No evening or weekend hours. The starting pay is $15.57/hour. There are no benefits.
