On the Foreign Assistance Dashboard, U.S. agencies are shown as carrying out their missions through
“Organizational Units.” Agency organizational units may be Country, Regional, or Functional offices
or other administrative entities with specific authorities. These organizational units are located
overseas or in the United States. The Organizational Unit refers to the location of the entity that
administers the funds and does not fully necessarily represent the populations of countries or regions
benefitting from funding. Explore below for more information about each type of organizational unit

Country Offices
Country specific offices are located overseas. Country offices implement foreign
assistance programs within that one discrete country. Country-level programs and
sector focus may vary by agency.
Regional Offices
Regional offices are located both in the United States, primarily in Washington,
DC, and overseas. Regionally focused offices provide support that crosses geographic
boundaries. These offices support activities in multiple countries, typically those
with a limited agency presence.
Functional Offices
Functional offices are located in the United States, primarily in Washington, DC,
and implement programs that are sector specific or world-wide in nature. These programs
are generally focused on one particular issue, such as health, human rights, counternarcotics,
or refugees.
