The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners helps protect against terrorism and natural disasters through its Committee on Critical Infrastructure. It also strives to provide state commissions with the information and tools needed to work with various industries to keep their critical infrastructure secure.

National Communications System (NCS)
The National Communications System was created in 1962 after the Cuban missile crisis when communications problems threatened to complicate the crisis further. NCS assists the President, the National Security Council, the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget with communications. Each NCS member organization is represented on the Committee for National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications, which advises NCS on security matters.

SAFECOM
SAFECOM, a public safety practitioner-driven program, works with existing federal communications initiatives and public safety entities to implement better technologies and processes for the coordination of existing systems and future networks. The public safety entities include more than 60,000 local and state public safety agencies and organizations.
