Alltel

Wireless Priority Service (WPS) was made available in most of Alltel's service areas effective 16 May 2008 until January 2009, when Alltel Wireless was purchased by Verizon Wireless. As a condition of this acquisition, the U.S. Department of Justice required that Verizon Wireless divest specific markets. AT&T Mobility purchased some of these markets, and Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) bought the remaining divested properties. ATN created Allied Wireless Communications Corporation (AWCC), retained the brand name Alltel, and is continuing to do business as Alltel Wireless in a subset of the former Alltel service areas.

Former Alltel users whose home calling areas are now in Verizon Wireless markets are now receiving WPS through Verizon Wireless.

Former Alltel users whose home calling areas are within AT&T Mobility markets will soon be receiving WPS through AT&T Mobility.

The NCS is currently pursuing an agreement with AWCC to enable them to continue to offer WPS to their independent subscribers under the re-emerging Alltel Wireless brand name. This site will be updated to reflect progress, so please check back periodically.
