1710 - 1755 MHz Introduction

On December 27, 2005, the U.S. Department of Commerce provided estimated costs and timeline information associated with relocating federal operations from the 1710-1755 MHZ band. The total number of frequency assignments that will be relocated by 12 federal agencies is 2,240 and the cost for the relocation of Federal Government operations is estimated to be $935,940,312. This effort is part of the 90 MHZ of radio spectrum that is to be made available for the near term for advanced wireless (including third generation or "3G") telecommunications services to meet the demand for new wireless services. To complete the 90 MHZ of spectrum being made available for advanced wireless services, the additional 45 MHZ of spectrum will be provided by the FCC (2110-2155 MHZ band). Further information on this proceeding is in the "Background Information" file below. Also below are links to the original 1710-1755 MHZ Spectrum Relocation Cost and Schedule Summaries, the spectrum-related information that pertain to the federal government unclassified and classified operations in the 1710-1755 MHZ band, and the agencies' Points of Contact.

Since December 27, 2005, the agencies have reviewed and updated some of the originally submitted relocation information. These updates consist of corrections to the data (e.g., coordinates, station class designation) as well as deletions to some assignments which are no longer operational. These deletions reduce both the original total number of assignments eligible for relocation and relocation costs to 2060 and $935,710,512 respectively. Updates to reflect any changes to the original 1710-1755 MHZ Spectrum Relocation Cost and Schedule Summaries, the spectrum-related information that pertain to the federal government unclassified and classified operations in the 1710-1755 MHZ band, and the agencies' Points of Contact are provided below.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please notify Gary Patrick in the Office of Spectrum Management at gpatrick@ntia.doc.gov, phone number is (202) 482-9132.
