Analysis of Insurer Reports
These reports focus on thefts and recoveries of insured motor vehicles and the premiums charged for comprehensive coverage. They were performed as part of NHTSA's obligation to inform, and to create and maintain awareness in the public, law enforcement agencies, and the United States Congress of issues concerning motor vehicle theft. The purpose of this information is to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, motor vehicle theft and the fiscal impact it has on the United States by evaluating the effectiveness of the theft deterrent provisions of Chapter 331 of Title 49 of the United States Code (USC).
