MSG Joeseph Schall

Master Sergeant Joseph Schall

Master Sergeant Joseph Schall is a native of Clarence, Pa. and a distinguished military veteran with 37 years of service. Schall is also a career Army reservist.


MSG Schall started his career with basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. in 1974. Schall was then assigned to the 318th Maintenance Company in State College, Pa. where he served the unit for 29 years, achieving the rank of First Sergeant/Master Sergeant. In 2003 Schall was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was attached to the 326th Maintenance Battalion as a Maintenance Control Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) before reassignment back to the 318th Maintenance Company.


Shortly after in 2004, MSG Schall was then transferred to the 818th Direct Support Maintenance Company for mobilization in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. Schall was mobilized to Forward Operating Base Endurance in Northern Iraq in late 2004. Schall returned to the U.S. at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa. as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Inspector until late 2007, where he again was assigned to temporary duty in Iraq in support of the M1114 program, which was instituted to train Iraqi Army and civilians on inspection methods. This tour lasted through 2008.


Schall’s military education includes: Field Radio Mechanic from Fort Sill, Okla. and also Field Radio Repair training at Fort Gordon, Ga. Schall is also trained in Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer courses, First Sergeant course, Unit Leader Battle Skill Course, and Light Wheeled Vehicle Course.


Schall’s Military Awards include the following: Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (8), National Defense Service Medal (2), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development (4) Armed Forces Reserve Medal (3), Army Service, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training (2), Global War On Terrorism, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Ribbon (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, and Overseas Service (3).


Schall’s civilian background includes a quality certification as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Inspector. While enlisted in the Army Reserves, Schall worked previously at Gammpar as a Shipping Manager.  He also was employed for over 19 years at Permagrain Flooring Products as Supervisor. Schall has served for 25 years at the American Legion in roles as Post Commander and Post Adjutant, as well as the Post Honor Guard.
