The Office of Head Start Summit: On the Road to School Readiness was held on February 15-17, 2011 in Baltimore, MD. The Summit provided Head Start leaders, including directors and education managers, with information, tools, and strategies to promote program quality and positive child outcomes. A goal of the Summit is to ensure that programs can identify where they are, where they may need to go, and how they will get to school readiness goals for preschool children.

Materials from the Summit are useful to Head Start leaders who attended and those that could not. The PowerPoints from the Plenary sessions provide useful information from experts in the field and grantees describing their ongoing work to achieve school readiness goals. The GPS Planner (Grantee Positioning System) is designed to help participants record the key points, reflect on the status of their program and plan for next steps. The GPS Planner also includes some key elements of the current Monitoring Protocol as well as a Grantee Action Plan template for recording actions needed, key personnel required, and timelines.
